Agrihood in Argyle Near Dallas

If you have never been to Dallas or Fort Worth, you’ve probably never heard of a town called Argyle. To be honest, I live in Fort Worth and I only heard of it a couple weeks ago. It’s near Denton, north of Dallas and Fort Worth.

Argyle is unique because they have one of the US’s 200 agrihoods. This is a fairly new type of neighborhood that’s started to become popular. Let’s dive into agrihoods and take a look at our local example.

So, what even is an agrihood?

The word “agrihood” itself is a combination of agriculture and neighborhood.

Agrihoods are basically master plan communities with farms on them that produce food for the entire neighborhood. The community grows their own crops and is essentially self-sufficient.

Harvest By Hillwood

According to their website, our local agrihood Harvest by Hillwood, sits on a 1,200 acre plot of land with 3,200 single-family homes.

Now, if you’re like me and the most experience you have farming is growing a couple watermelons, don’t worry. Harvest by Hillwood has its own full-time farmer to do all the work. If you would like to learn more about farming and even plant your own produce, I’m told he is more than happy to lend a hand.
